The ego and the world are unreal - God is real

Shankara:  "God (Brahma) is real, the universe is unreal, God is the universe."  /  "The world ...is like a dream: it appears to be real as long as one is ignorant, but becomes unreal when one is awake."

Ma Yoga Shakti:   "The material world is ultimately no more real than the worlds of our dreams; both are the products of consciousness."

New Testament:   "Awake you that sleepest, arise from the dead."  /  "Awake to Righteousness."

Bhagavad Gita:  "With the sword of Knowledge cut asunder this doubt about the Self. Arise!"

The world is a manifestation of God's energy

New Testament:   "Before the world was created, the Word already existed, and the word was with God,
and the Word was God."

Vedic Scriptures:   "God (Brahman) was in the beginning, with Him was the word (vak) and the word is God."

Where to find God or reveal the Self:

New Testament:   "The Kingdom of God is WITHIN you."   /  "Know that you are God's Temple and that God's Spirit lives IN you."

Swami Muktananda:   "There is a sublime place INSIDE us where love dwells."

Roy Eugene Davis:  "At the deepest level of your being, behind the screen of mind and personality, is the pure, immortal, true SELF you are."

Siddha Mantra: "OM namah Shivaya (I honor the inner SELF)"

Ramana Maharshi:   "Self-realization is BLISS."

How to find God or reveal the Self:

Shankara:  "By constant meditation is kindled the flame of Knowledge, which completely burns up
the fuel of ignorance."  /  "The Knowledge which destroys ignorance, can only be achieved through the inquiry:
WHO AM I?"

Bhagavad Gita:   "I am easy of access to that ever steadfast seeker who constantly meditates on Me and
gives no thought to anything else."

New Testament:   "Pray without ceasing."

Swami Rama:   "One realizes the absolute, undivided Reality through knowledge of the Self alone."

Bible/Bhakti/Devotion:  "You shall love God with all your heart, with all your Soul, and with all your mind."

Socrates:   "Know Thyself!"

Mother Teresa:   "By forgetting yourself you find your SELF."

Ramana Maharshi:   "Enquiry of "Who am I?" means finding the source of 'I'. When that is found, that which you seek is accomplished."

Hurdles to overcome: Ignorance, Habits, and Fear

Ignorance:

New Testament:   "If they did understand they would turn to God and He would forgive them."

Bhagavad Gita:   "The man endowed with wisdom I deem to be my very Self. Steadfast in mind, He remains fixed in Me alone as the supreme goal."

Shankara: "Action cannot destroy ignorance, for it is not in conflict with ignorance. Knowledge alone destroys ignorance, as light destroys dense darkness."  /  "It is only because of ignorance that the Self appears to be finite."

Habits:

New Testament:   "Stop paying attention to your sinful nature and satisfying its desires."  /  "For you have to put off the old self with its habits and have to put on the new Self. This is the new Being which God its Creator, is constantly renewing in his image in order to bring you to a full knowledge of Himself."

Bhagavad Gita:   "When a man has no attachments to the objects of the senses..., and when he has wholly renounced his will, he is said to have attained Yoga (union with God)."  /  "To him who has conquered himself by Himself, his own Self is a friend."

Fear:

Isaiah:   "Do not fear, for I am with you. Be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, I will help you."

Shankara:   "The Soul regarding Itself as the jiva (individual soul, ego) is overcome by fear, just like
the man who regards a rope as a snake. The Soul regains fearlessness by realizing that It is not a jiva but the Supreme Soul."

Bertrand Russel:   "To conquer fear is the beginning of wisdom."

Uriah Heep:   "Don't be afraid just look at your Self."

The Guru is at hand:

Yogananda:   "If you think me near, I will be near."

Ephesians:   "..Christ will make his home in your hearts through faith."

Qu'ran:   "Where ever you turn, there is the face of God."
